Elisabeth Bridge

A white suspension bridge between Gellért Hill and the centre of Pest, rebuilt in 1964 after the war. Walking across takes about ten minutes, with the hill behind you. Skip it if you're staying on the Buda side tonight.

Gellért Hill Cave

A church built into the caves of Gellért Hill in the 1920s and run by the Pauline order. The communists walled it up in 1951, and it reopened in 1989. Closed on Sundays. Skip it if church interiors don't interest you; it's small and dim.

St. Gerard Sagredo Statue

A statue of St Gerard, the bishop who, legend says, was thrown from this hill in 1046. It stands above a small waterfall facing Elisabeth Bridge, and the steps beside it are the quickest way down. Skip it if you took the park path; it's on the river side.

A park on the south slope of Gellért Hill, with lawns, paths and an easier climb than the stairs on the river side. Skip it if you'd rather go straight up; it's a detour for a gentler slope.

Szabadság-szobor

The bronze woman holding a palm leaf over the city, put up in 1947 and kept after 1989, when the Soviet soldier at her feet was taken away. She stands beside the Citadel and you can walk right up to her. Skip it if you've seen her from below; the view from here is the reason to come.
