Frederick the Great's summer palace (1747) is a Rococo gem with terraced vineyards, a Chinese tea house, and the New Palace at the far end of the park. Potsdam's Dutch Quarter and the reconstructed city center are worth exploring on foot. Independent visit by S7 train (covered by Berlin ABC ticket) or guided tours with transport included.

Take the S7 from Berlin to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (30 min, covered by ABC zone ticket EUR4.40). Book Sanssouci Palace timed tickets online - they sell out by midday. The park is free and massive; rent a bike in Potsdam to cover it efficiently. The New Palace is less crowded than Sanssouci and equally impressive inside.
