About Gazi & Metaxourgeio
Gazi is the nightclub district around the Technopolis cultural centre (the converted old gasworks, recognisable by its illuminated chimneys). Bars and clubs line Voutadon, Dekeleon, and Persefonis streets, peaking at 1-2 AM on weekends. The area is Athens' primary LGBTQ+ nightlife district. Metaxourgeio, the neighbourhood next door, is transforming fast: street art on abandoned buildings, new restaurants in converted warehouses, galleries opening in former workshops, and the Athens Municipal Gallery (free, worth a visit). The area is grittier than Koukaki or Kolonaki, more interesting than the tourist centre, and has the feeling of a neighbourhood that is being discovered in real time.

Blue Parrot
CafeNeighborhood cafe in Pangrati with vintage furniture, local regulars, and a shaded courtyard for escaping summer heat. Nightlife timing
Gazi bars open around 9 PM but do not fill until 11 PM. Clubs start at midnight and peak at 2-3 AM. Pre-game at the bars on Voutadon Street, then move to clubs. Cover charges EUR 5-10, drinks EUR 8-12. The area is busiest Thursday to Saturday.
Technopolis events
The old gasworks (Technopolis) hosts free and ticketed events: exhibitions, concerts, festivals, markets. Check the schedule online. The Athens Jazz Festival is held here in late May. The building itself is worth seeing for the industrial architecture.
Metaxourgeio emerging scene
Walk Leonidou and Kolokynthous streets for the best street art and newest restaurants. The Municipal Gallery (Pireos 51, free) has a small but interesting collection of modern Greek art. The restaurants here are newer and trying harder than the established spots in Psyrri, often with lower prices.
