About Piazza Navona
Rome's most beautiful piazza sits on the outline of a first-century Roman stadium, and you can still see the oval shape. Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers anchors the center, flanked by two smaller fountains. The piazza is ringed by Baroque facades and outdoor cafes that charge double for the privilege of sitting there (a coffee costs €6 versus €1.20 at the bar around the corner). Best visited as a walk-through, not a sit-down. Street artists and occasional small markets keep it lively year-round.

Getting there
Tips, answered
Do not eat at the piazza restaurants. They are all overpriced and mediocre. Walk one block in any direction for better food at half the price. Evening is the liveliest time, with street performers and a warm atmosphere. The Christmas market (December) fills the entire piazza.
Plan for about 30 minutes. Morning visits are typically less crowded.
Piazza Navona is in the Centro Storico neighborhood of Rome. The address is Piazza Navona, 00186 Roma RM, Italy. The area is well-served by metro.
Morning visits, especially early, mean fewer crowds and better light for photos. Weekdays are significantly quieter than weekends.
Comfortable shoes are recommended. Parts are outdoors, so bring a light layer.
